Setting Up A Good Author Website

A good website will include the following components:

  • a list of published books
  • prominently display new or impending releases
  • provide an obvious way to subscribe for updates
  • provide a way to contact the author and publisher
  • include links to the author’s social media profiles
  • display a list of upcoming novels
  • include a blog to showcase the author’s personality and/or writing process
  • be easy to navigate
  • have a clean, unique design
  • be mobile friendly

On the homepage display:

  • latest book – cover, blurb, buy links
  • email subscription box
  • headshot and short bio
  • social media links

About page:

  • Headshot (hi-res)
  • Short and long bio
  • email subscription box.

For the books overview page:

  • Book covers (thumbnails)
  • Titles
  • Short description
  • Buy links
  • Read more links
  • Email subscription box

Books – single:

  • Book cover (larger size)
  • Titles and subtitles
  • Full description
  • Blurbs and testimonials
  • Buy links
  • Email subscription box

Have a page for standalone books.
Have a page for any series.
Group short stories and novellas on another page.

List series name with the title of the book and position in the series, i.e [book title],[series title][number]

  • Short description for series
  • Cover graphic for series
  • Buy links

Reviews:

  • Include any positive reviews you have
  • If the book is part of a series, include the series title in the title of the review
  • Include a cover image with a link to the book

Social media:

  • Include 4-6 links
  • Add a contact form
  • Email subscription box

Events:

  • Current book tours
  • Who to contact to organise

Include a blog.
